Celebration of the Lakes

Today we headed out for some good ole fashion Minnesota fun...playing on frozen lakes. We went to the 17th Annual Celebration of the Lakes.
Sled dog rides, Snowmobile drag racing, Turkey bowling on ice (yes, that's what I said) and other fun activities all take place on a lake. Click the link for a complete list of events. I grew up on the lake they used to have this on. There is a hot air balloon launch, and that is what I remember as a child. Waking up to a bunch of hot air balloons above my house. We, unfortunately missed the launch. I might go back tomorrow just to see it, but we will see. James went absolutely crazy for all of the snowmobiles and four wheelers. For the majority of the time we watched the snowmobile races, James loved them! My sweet. So serious.

This is a view of part of the action. It was taken while I was driving by. Just a fun fact: the church you see in the background was the church in Grumpy Old Men.

Watching the snowmobiles so attentively.

The little racers...look how cute they are!

James after one minute in the car on our way home.

James not even another minute later.

Don't bother him...

...he is too busy working. Anyone else getting cabin fever? A little seasonal depression? Me me me!! It makes me sad that I am not taking as many pictures either. I am really, you can only take so many pictures of James playing on the floor with his cars, or sitting on the couch.
James is so sick of winter and being stuck indoors that he is forcing himself to find work to do on the computer...he is so serious.

Award-izle

For sheezie my neezie, I am uncertain on how those words are spelled due to the fact that I believe they are not real words- whatev. I have been graciously awarded two new awards, one in which I was given twice! So technically three, or would it be technically two? Again, Whatev. All I know is I love my readers to death and thank you all for reading. I am really loving the three hot mamas that gave me these awards: Andrea, Melissa, and Brooke. Whoop-Whoop!

From Andrea @ Our Loving Family and Melissa @ Mamachef's Blog I receive:

The award states: "These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

And from Brooke @ The Ramblings of a Forgiven Momma I receive:

Honest Scrap award:A) First list 10 honest things about yourself - and make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep!B) Pass the award on to 7 bloggers that you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.

Okie dokie here it goes:

  1. I don't have enough skin on either of my pinkies to fully extend them and James has the same thing.
  2. My mom is very short and she named me Bridget...I am very lucky I didn't inherit her shortness otherwise I am sure I would have had a tough childhood being called Bridget the Midget.
  3. I love to read magazines while taking baths...I have a few subscriptions and the day they come in the mail I make a whole night out of it.
  4. I want to be a stay at home mom.
  5. I ate french fries twice today.
  6. James learned how to say french fry today.
  7. I wasn't worried about the economy and didn't think it was a big deal until I heard Target laid off hundreds and hundreds of people yesterday. If Target ain't doing too hot you know the country is going down the toilet! -I am half kidding about this. I was worried before.
  8. Speaking of target, Sarah and I were there and in the candle section and I was trying to figure out what this big weird branchy piece of metal was... it said it was a pillar holder, I didn't understand until Sarah flipped it over the right way...it all made sense then. I am glad Sarah got a good laugh out of it. I think she peed a little.
  9. These things kind of take a long time to do.
  10. James can count he says: One, eat, op, eat, op, eat, op. His ABCs are like that too. I think I could eat him.

Now my turn to bestow these awards along to other super rad bloggers:

  1. The Miss Elaine-ous Life
  2. Four Molnars
  3. Boogers, Screams, Headaches & Dreams
  4. Kids...Me & RAW III
  5. Life With Two
  6. Tripping Over My Tongue
  7. Pink Lemonade
  8. Knit, Nicole, Knit!
  9. My Crazy Life with a Toddler
  10. 1,2,3 Go!
  11. Is it Bedtime Yet?
  12. Small Town Mommy

There is a handful of blogs I am reading right now...Take both of them! Thank you and Congrats!

pretending it's summer

We really needed to do something to beat these dang winter blues. We headed out to a local motel and took advantage of their pool. Fun was had by all for sure! I know two little babes that will be sleeping good tonight. I know a couple of mommies that will probably fall in that category too!

James did so well with blowing bubbles, kicking his legs, and he even dunked his face in! Definitely an improvement from last summer!

re: previous post

So, My landlord never actually came over today. He was around though. What had happened was our next door neighbor's (Who have been MIA for a few months) furnace broke and the pipe burst. It was too dark for us to see that the water was coming from their house. In conclusion, we had to clean up the mess ourselves. He did put some salt down in front of our door. I guess he did have more important things to tend to. I bet that was a mess and a half to clean up!

water is fun...

Except when it is 11:00 at night and pouring under your front door into the house wreaking your most favorite shoes that were stashed away neatly in the coat closet. Stumped, I sit here wondering two things, One: How is snow so furiously melting at this hour, not to mention it is 12 degrees out. Two: Why is my landlord and his wife a couple of [insert swear word here] idiots!?

Let me paint you a picture.

I am jamming out to Whatever You Like By T.I. (I love this song even though I don't listen to much hip hop) when I am interrupted by my phone ringing. I turn down the radio and answer the phone. It's Caleb, I say hi and he says,
"We have a big problem."
Ok, let me take a moment to just let any dads out there know that you don't say this to your significant other.
Immediately thoughts are running through my head, Ok James is stuck somewhere or something. He locked himself in the bathroom the other day, but that's a whole different story. I was thinking something along those lines though.
"Water is pouring in the house through the walls," he went on to say.
I was VERY confused and worried they might drown. I had no idea what the heck was going on.
"The snow is melting so badly water is everywhere out the front door and it is coming into the house. I don't know what to do, I have used every towel in the whole house!" I let him go telling him I would be home in a couple minutes.
I get home and he is out shoveling water like a crazy person, throwing the water which is landing on some little bush things. They are covered in ice.
I call my landlord.
His stupid wife answers the phone, here is how the conversation went:
Stupid Landlord Wife: Hello?
Me: Hi, is Marshall available?
SLW: Ummm...(in a snotty tone) He is sleeping, can I take a message?
Me: Oh, Yes. This is Bridget calling from the blank blank town homes in # blank and could you please let him know that snow is melting so badly that it is pouring into the front of our house? All over the entry way floor? Standing water? Seeping in from under the stairs and through the walls?
SLW: Oh, well even if I did wake him up I don't think there is much he could do about it.
Me: I understand, we just don't know what to do and don't have a wet vac and I didn't want to get in trouble for waiting.(we have got yelled at before by this dumb-dumb for waiting to call him when our furnace went out, we woke up at 8:00am and then realized it was out and immediately called him. He was yelling at us as to why we didn't call him at 7 am!?!!?)
SLW: DID YOU WANT ME TO WAKE HIM UP?
Me: Oh, no. I don't want to cause any sort of inconvenience. Please just let him know in the morning then. Thank you.

Dumb broad. It was worse when I was talking to her than how it sounds being read.
To be continued tomorrow...
Should be interesting what this guy has to say and what he is going to do about he problem.

UGH!
* I tried to take a picture of it, but it is kind of hard to take a picture of water like that.

There will probably be more ice cream pictures sometime this week.

These are what we had for dinner last night, I thought this would be kind of fun to do. For more information click on the logo at the top of this post. If we ever have something WE made we will give the recipes too. We also never tell each other before hand what we are having for dinner. So it is a little surprise.

goof

Last week Caleb's sister in law, who is due in Feb, came over and picked up some things and I had two of those bouncy seat things so one was left. James thinks it's hilarious to sit in and watch TV, doesn't he look comfy though?

My best friends

hopefully only for today. I have the nasty stomach virus that is going around. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck. Up all night, sleep during the day and the worst part is not holding my punkin butt. I have not touched him at all today. I so desperately hope James doesn't get this.

What's for Din-Din Mom?

So, we are still working the technicalities out on this idea. Mainly because the original idea was to do it every Saturday night and post Sunday morning. My mind is super cool and really smart and for some reason forgot that I work every other Saturday. So we are figuring out a day that will work for both of us...possibly all of us. I pressured my mom into taking pictures of what she ate last night, thinking it would be her and my sister. This is the second week we have done this and my sister who was so pumped about this and planned her Saturday meals for the next five years simply forgot. So without further a due, what my mom had for dinner last night:
Her words:
We had Chicken, onion and green chili quesadillas with the works on top & Asian chicken wings loaded with garlic and ginger...appetizer night! yum yum..

That does look really good! Thanks Mom!

Forecast calls for snow...

...on the kitchen floor. It was really cold outside, so I brought some snow inside so he could get down and dirty- or wet. I think he thought I was crazy, and I suppose my neighbors did too if they saw me filling up a roasting pan with snow using a shovel while in my pajamas then running back into my house with it.

PB & J Ravioli

I am sure I'm not the first person to do this, but I thought I would post it anyway. I have recently started giving James peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch and he seemed to really like them. The only problem was that he would tear the two pieces of bread apart and just pick at the insides. So I put my creative thinking cap on and created these puppies. Take one piece of bread with no crusts, put peanut butter on one side and jelly on the other, fold it in half and pinch the sides (or use a fork to make it pretty). Easy as that and James doesn't try to get into them...yet.
