Pappy and Nana's Central America Hospital Tour Adventures

This is where my thoughts have been for the last week and a half or so. I am going to try not to make this extreamly long.
Almost exactly a year ago, my dad drove himself to the emergency room with chest pain. There ended up being some major blockage in his heart and had a few stents put in. Not too long after that he ended up back in the ER with more stents put in, which just so happened to be the day after his wedding reception. So, fast forward about nine months or so. Vicki was offered an amazing job in Belize. In April, they packed up their things, and started living a really incredible life down there. Then, a week ago last Friday I got a call from Vicki. It was not a very good call. Let's just say that the nurses down there were pretty much freaking the hell out of her. Which then made my family and I, a hysterical wreck for a good few days, which was when we heard that it wasn't AS bad as we all had thought. Still very serious though.
They ended up having to take a plane from where they live, to Belize City. They did a stress test and found more blockage. They were going to have to go to Guatemala for an angiogram. They had to take a five hour long bus ride to the border of Belize and then get on an airplane to Guatemala City. He had another angioplasty with more stents put in.
Last I heard from Vicki was on Tuesday, I think. She said he was doing very well, given his situation. They were going to be out of the hospital in a few days, stay in Guatemala a couple more days, and start their travel home to Belize today. They should hopefully, if everything goes as they planed, be home tomorrow!!! If you want to read more, Vicki has writen in a little more detail on her blog about what was going on. Their blog is Caribbean Crosswinds in Belize. You can also check out some of the amazing things they have got to do since living down there. I hope they don't mind I am posting this, and the picture. I think it is a beautiful picture of them. I think they thought otherwise.
I wish good health for everyone!!

That is a lovely picture. I am so sorry to hear of what happened to your dad. I will pray for him. Is the medical care there good? Sounds like he really needs to be close to a good group of doctors.

Yes, they have amazing people around them. The hospital they went to in Guatemala is a great heart hospital. I was told that it is where some prime ministers have gone for treatment. They had a very nice host family that let Vicki stay with them while they were there. I was very concerned about the same thing...thinking they just need to get their butts back in the US, but it looks like they are in good hands. Which makes me feel a ton better about the whole thing.

Your dad is in my thoughts and prayers, and so are you and everyone you love who is worrying about him. I hope he'll heal up well and you'll be able to see him soon.

Hi Bridge! I hope your dad is okay, I bet that's been very scary for you. I let both of my parents know about what's going on and their best wishes are with him, along with mine. I wish I had known where in Belize he is living - Brett and I were so close to there when we visited Belize in May! Next time we go (hopefully we'll go again!) we'll have to visit your dad and Vicki.

Otherwise, I hope you're enjoying your summer! James is one handsome little boy!

Wow that has to be scary for you being so far away from him. But it does sound like he was in good hands with Vicki and the docs down there. I will continue to keep him and your whole family in my prayers.
